Salt Springs man killed when trike motorcycle slams into tree in Marion County

A Salt Springs motorcyclist was pronounced dead early Sunday morning after his Harley-Davidson trike collided with a tree the previous evening.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was called to a crash scene in the area of County Road 314 near the intersection of NE 112th Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday. When the trooper arrived, it was discovered that the crash involving the trike ridden by 60-year-old Scott Sayer had taken place right before midnight on Saturday. A short time later, Sayer was pronounced dead by a crew from Marion County Fire Rescue, the FHP report states.

It was then determined that Sayer’s trike had been traveling northbound on CR-314, approaching a hard right curve at the intersection of NE 112th Avenue. He apparently didn’t negotiate the curve and continued northbound onto the west shoulder of CR-314, across NE 112th Avenue before colliding with a tree, the FHP report says.

After the collision, Sayer’s trike rotated and overturned before coming to rest facing northwest in the residence located at 4465 NE 112th Ave. Sayer was thrown from the trike into the tree and wasn’t discovered until Sunday morning by a passing motorist, the report says.
