Gilbert Baxter

Gilbert Baxter of Ocala, FL passed into the Loving arms of Jesus on December 13, 2018 at 10:19 am after a short, but aggressive battle with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Born March 6, 1963 in Colchester, Vermont to Clinton and Palestine Baxter, he was the youngest of seven children. Gilbert graduated from Colchester High School, then went on to attend Champlain College earning an Associates degree in Business. Gil was employed by McDonald’s for 36 years.

Lifetime fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, Gil loved participating in fantasy leagues with his friends and family. Gil was a fiercely loyal, loving, and protective husband, father, brother, friend, and boss. He enjoyed spending time on Lake Champlain with his family, boating and jet skiing. He loved to play golf and watch movies with his children. He was an active member of Friendship Masonic Lodge no. 53 F&AM and the Ocala Scottish Rite. He was also a very active member of Christ the King Anglican Church, and could often be found in the kitchen cooking a meal for Wednesday nights, or Sunday evening services. He loved cooking for his family and friends to gather together and have fellowship.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his loving parents, Clinton A. Baxter (2002) and Palestine Gilbert Baxter (1996); brother-in-law, Clemente Hurteau (1996).

He is survived by wife of 13 years, Alanna Foy Baxter; and daughters, Alexis (12) and Cadence (11); his son, Joshua (31), from his 1st marriage to Shelly (Breen) Duval; sisters, Linda Johnston, her husband, Douglas, Carol Hurteau and boyfriend, Rodney Bushey, Jean Correia and husband, Dick, June Trayah and husband, David; and brothers, Thomas Baxter and wife, Elaine, Joseph Baxter and wife, Cindy; father-in-law, George ‘Tony’ Foy; and mother-in-law, Susan Foy; brother-in-law, Justin Foy and wife, Maria; sister-in-law, Andrea Vincent and husband, Nathan; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Florida funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11am, Christ the King Anglican Church 4440 SE 3rd Ave, Ocala, FL 34480. A service with burial is being planned in Vermont for late Spring/Early Summer at the Milton United Methodist Church.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gilbert’s name to one of the following: Christ the King Anglican Church’s building fund, Ronald McDonald House Charities, or a Masonic charity of choice.
