Richard’s Place, which boasts of serving breakfast all day, was forced to close right before the lunch hour last week when a health inspector found roach activity inside the diner. The eatery, located at 316 E Silver Springs Blvd., has been closed by a health inspector six times since Nov. 9, 2016, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation records show.

For the second time in less than a month, an Ocala restaurant that touts all-day breakfast servings has been forced to close its doors by a health inspector.

The inspector visited Richard’s Place, located at located at 316 E Silver Springs Blvd., last Thursday and reported five violations – two of which were registered as high priority, according to a report on file with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

The restaurant was shut down at 10:27 a.m. – the seventh time a health inspector has closed the business since Nov. 9, 2016, records show.

One of the most egregious violations centered on the presence of seven live roaches in the eatery – one by a refrigerator, two behind a conduit in the waiting area, two on shelving in the dry storage area, one on a dish-wash sink leg and one near a prep table leg.

The second high-priority violation was recorded for raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food in a double-door cooler. The inspector reported finding raw eggs and chicken stored above beets and raw beef above cookies, the report says.

There also were three basic violations. Those included:

  • A souffle cup used to scoop coleslaw in the cookline cooler;
  • Build-up of grease on the bottom shelving of prep tables; and
  • Four dead roaches found by a refrigerator in a waiting area, the dish wash area, the dry storage area and behind the double-door cooler in the kitchen.

The health inspector returned to the restaurant the following day and found no violations. The eatery was allowed to reopen Friday at 4:43 p.m.
