Reddick woman accused of domestic battery hours after court hearing on similar charge

Laquana Lajoyce Whitehead

A Reddick woman out on bond for allegedly battering another woman is back in the Marion County Jail on a domestic battery charge after an altercation with the same victim.

The Marion County sheriff’s deputy who responded last Wednesday to an anonymous report of a physical altercation at a home on Northwest 35th Court Rd. was met by Laquana Lajoyce Whitehead, 24. She said she was in court earlier in the day for committing battery on the victim and wasn’t supposed to be in contact with her. However, she claimed, the victim broke the windshield of her SUV to trigger an altercation. When asked who owns the vehicle, she said it is registered in both of their names, a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy observed a large knot on the victim’s left cheekbone and a scratch next to her left eye. The victim said she wasn’t going to lie for Whitehead and that the two had been in an altercation about her staying out the previous night and using the vehicle they share, the report says.

The victim said Whitehead allegedly started to hit her but wouldn’t say where or how because she didn’t want to get anyone in trouble. She also said Whitehead had been staying at the home.

Once the victim realized Whitehead was being arrested, she changed her story and said she didn’t know how she sustained the injuries, and that she didn’t want Whitehead charged, the report says.

Whitehead, who was charged with battery, is being held without bond, with her next appearance in Marion County Court set for March 26.
