An 18-year-old Ocala man spent Monday night in the Marion County Jail on a domestic battery charge after getting into a physical altercation over a video game.

The witness who called law enforcement told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Michael Alexander Demoustes, of Northwest 67th Place, was angry over the victim’s use of the home’s internet connection.

The witness said the victim entered Demoustes’ room and tried to turn off his game console when the teenager slapped his hand and pushed him. She said Demoustes went outside and got a shovel and returned to the room but immediately threw it back outside without doing anything with it, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim told the deputy that Demoustes yelled at him to turn off his phone because it was interfering with his video game internet connection. He confirmed that Demoustes slapped his hand and pushed him, and when he pushed back, Demoustes went and got the shovel, the report says.

The victim said Demoustes didn’t make any threats and that he never felt as though he was going to use the shovel against him. He also said he was not injured as a result of the incident.

Demoustes said the victim pushed him first and he pushed back. Based on the statements, the deputy determined Demoustes was the primary aggressor and arrested him. He was released Tuesday on his own recognizance and will answer to the domestic battery charge in Marion County Court on April 9.
