Ocala man admits to dragging woman by her hair during spat over crack

David Bannister

An Ocala man was arrested Sunday after admitting he dragged a woman out of the house by her hair during a squabble over the amount of money she’s spent on “crack” cocaine.

David Bannister, 61, of NE 36th Avenue, told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy the victim became “mouthy” and he grabbed her by the arms and dragged her out of his workshop, holding her down on the ground with his knee. Bannister said they went back to their residence, where she again got “mouthy” and he dragged her out of the house by her hair, according to the arrest report.

The deputy contacted the victim, who was laying on the front porch screaming and appeared to be under the influence of an illegal substance. The report states the victim was being extremely hostile and repeating herself and was unable to articulate what happened. However, she did say Bannister dragged her out of the workshop and residence by her hair. She also complained about her hip hurting and was taken by Marion County Fire Rescue to West Marion Hospital.

Bannister was charged with two counts of domestic battery and taken to the Marion County Jail. He was released Monday on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on May 17.
