An Ocala woman was charged with possession of methamphetamine and her son with possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop on Monday.
A Marion County sheriff’s K-9 deputy observed an eastbound silver Chevrolet Traverse with an expired Kentucky license tag traveling faster than the posted 30 mph speed limit on SW Marine Boulevard. The deputy was able to pace the vehicle at 60 mph in his patrol vehicle before initiating a traffic stop in the parking lot of the BP gas station at 4740 S. U.S. Highway 41, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The driver of the vehicle was 47-year-old Sonya Bremmer, and a records search showed her driver’s license was suspended. The passenger was her 25-year-old son, Shane M. Styers, who told the deputy he had recently moved back to Florida from Kentucky, according to the report.
While a deputy was checking Bremmer and Styers for possible warrants, K-9 “Robo” conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle that alerted to both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle. Styers was found to have a hard object in his right pants pocket, which he said was a marijuana pipe. Residue inside the pipe field tested positive for marijuana, according to the report.
Bremmer was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia, while Styers was charged with possession of paraphernalia. Both were taken to the Marion County Jail, where Bremmer was released Tuesday on $3,000 bond. Styers remains held on $100 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on May 17.
