Homeless man with long criminal record jailed on drug charges

Charles Leslie Seeber

A homeless man with numerous previous drug arrests was charged with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia after being pulled over Thursday morning in Ocala for driving with a suspended license.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed Charles Leslie Seeber, 31, driving a green Chevrolet TrailBlazer and knew from prior dealings with him that he has a suspended license. He conducted the traffic stop in the 5700 block of SW 108th Street, according to the sheriff’s office arrest report.

After a computer check confirmed Seeber’s license is revoked and he is a habitual traffic offender, he was arrested and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. A K-9 deputy used his dog to conduct a free-air sniff and “Robo” gave a positive alert. Three passengers were removed from the vehicle as deputies searched it, the report said.

Deputies found a gray book bag with orange trim in the back cargo holding area of the TrailBlazer. Inside the bag were three hypodermic syringes and several small plastic bags containing a white powdered substance that field tested positive for cocaine, according to the report.

Questioned separately, the three passengers said the bag belonged to Seeber. They were each able to describe the bag and said Seeber placed it in the rear cargo area of the vehicle when he entered it, the report said.

At first, Seeber denied possessing any of the bags in the vehicle and said the drugs and syringes weren’t his. Later, he said the white powdered substance was sugar and that he had watched someone fill it, acknowledging he knew the contents of the book bag that he initially declined knowing about, according to the report.

According to Marion County Jail records, Seeber has nine previous arrests dating back to 2009 on charges including drug possession, domestic battery, theft, and driving with a suspended license. He’s being held on $8,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 2.
