Ocala woman jailed after nasty ‘tussle’ over cell phone

Rhonda Deann Johnson

An Ocala woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery after “tussling” with a man during an altercation Tuesday night.

Rhonda Deann Johnson, 47, of NE 35th St., told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and the victim were arguing over a cell phone when she left her residence to go next door to her stepfather’s house. She said when she was in her stepfather’s front yard, she reached into the victim’s pocket to get his cell phone. Johnson said they both fell and were “tussling” in the front yard, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Johnson’s stepfather, who reported the incident, told the deputy the victim was standing in the driveway when Johnson approached him and demanded he hand over his cell phone. He said Johnson cornered the victim up against a pickup truck, pushed him to the ground and they began fighting in the front yard, the report said.

The victim’s account corroborated the Johnson’s stepfather’s version of events. The deputy observed the victim had wet dirt on his face, back, arms, and knees, according to the report.

While in the patrol car on the way to the Marion County Jail, Johnson reportedly told the deputy multiple times she was going to kill the victim when she gets out of jail. She was released Wednesday night on $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 18.
