A pair of 20-year-old Ocala women spent time in the Marion County Jail for allegedly throwing potted plants at a man during an altercation over the victim wanting his pregnant girlfriend to have an abortion.

Joanne Jeanite and Risheena Campbell were both charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and second-degree criminal mischief after the altercation, which happened June 9. Jeanite is the victim’s girlfriend’s sister.

The victim told an Ocala Police officer he and his girlfriend were in an argument due to the fact she was pregnant and he wanted her to get an abortion. The victim said he placed her property outside their home while she was away, according to the OPD report.

The victim said Jeanite and Campbell came to the residence and threatened to beat up his baby’s mother and her kids. He said he came out with a baseball bat to protect himself, and Jeanite and Campbell picked up potted plants and hit him in the neck and arm with them. The victim said he slipped and lost the bat, and Jeanite picked it up and hit him in the back with it. The victim had visible injuries to his neck and arm and there was damage to the potted plants in the yard, the report said.

The victim’s girlfriend said she came home from work and saw her belongings by the door. She said she and the victim got into an argument about the victim not wanting to have a child. She said she texted for her sister to come pick her up and Jeanite arrived with Campbell, according to the report.

The victim’s girlfriend said Jeanite and Campbell started knocking on the door and the victim answered with a bat. She said there was a verbal argument and Jeanite pushed the victim and he responded by lunging at her with the bat in his hand. The victim’s girlfriend said she saw Jeanite and Campbell throw the potted plants at the victim, and the two women were slapping him while rolling on the ground. She said the women were on top of the victim and he was slapping to get them off, the report said.

Jeanite said she knocked on the door and the victim answered with a metal bat in his hand. She said everyone was in each other’s faces when the victim slapped Campbell and everyone started fighting. She said the victim hit both her and Campbell with the bat and started throwing plants at them. She said the victim fell into the shrubs, got up and said, “I got something for that” and went in and got a knife, according to the report.

Campbell said she told the victim, “If you don’t want a baby, wear a condom,” and he slapped her in the face. She said he threw a flowerpot at her and she threw it back at him, the report said.

Jeanite was released the following day on $2,500 bond, while Campbell was released June 11 on $2,500. Both are scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 9.
