Ocala man accused of taking wallet and watch as collateral for drug money

Christopher Lamant Perkins

An Ocala man is in the Marion County Jail for allegedly taking a man’s wallet and watch by knifepoint as “collateral” for a drug debt.

Christopher Lamant Perkins, 43, of 4091 NE 4th Terrace, was charged with robbery with a weapon after the incident, which happened Monday night at his home.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Perkins accused him of stealing $40 worth of heroin. He said Perkins pulled out a folding knife, placing him in fear, and demanded his wallet and watch, which the victim gave him. The victim said Perkins told him to leave and get his $40. The victim said he ran to a gas station and called law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Deputies responded to Perkins’ home and found and detained hm for questioning. A black folding knife was found in his possession. The victim said it was probably the knife used to threaten him, but he wasn’t completely sure. Deputies obtained a search warrant and found the victim’s wallet and watch in the home, the report said.

Perkins denied robbing the victim. He told deputies the victim owed him $40 and gave him the watch and wallet as collateral. Perkins is being held on $50,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 12.
