Battle over late-night tire installation lands 31-year-old Ocala woman behind bars

Jessica Lynn Miles

A nasty scuffle over installing new tires has left an Ocala woman behind bars.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called Tuesday at midnight to the intersection of State Road 40 and SW 140th Avenue and when he arrived, a man said he and 31-year-old Jessica Lynn Miles had driven to Orlando to purchase tires for her car and then returned to their residence in the 1400 block of SW 20th Street in Ocala. The man said Miles wanted him to install the tires right away but he didn’t want to because it was dark outside, a sheriff’s office report states.

The man claimed that Miles became upset and started cursing at him and demanding he put the tires on her vehicle. After he refused several times, he said Miles “became irate” and punched him with a closed fist on the right side of his face. He said she took her shoe and hit him in the mouth, causing his lip to bleed, and then grabbed her keys and started scratching his vehicle, the report says.

Miles denied hitting the man and said that “nothing ever happened.” She said he came home after purchasing the tires and refused to put them on her vehicle, so she grabbed the tools to do it herself. She said the man then took the tools and left the residence, the report says.

The deputy also spoke with a juvenile witness who said she saw Miles strike the man in his face with a shoe. She also said Miles and the man have hit each other numerous times in the past, the report says.

Miles was then taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. On the way to the detention facility, she told the deputy she was raised to defend herself and said, “I hit that mother (expletive deleted),” the report says.

Miles was charged with domestic battery and is being held on $1,000 bond. She is due in court on Dec. 3 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge.
