New York woman killed in two-vehicle crash in Marion County

A 54-year-old New York woman was killed early Sunday morning in a crash in Marion County.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers and other first responders were called to the crash at 6:20 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 326 and NW 77th Street. FHP investigators determined that a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 52-year-old Anthony Ray Andrews, of Ocala, had been heading east on SR 326 when he turned into the path of a westbound 2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van driven by 38-year-old Do Van Nguyen, of Syracuse, N.Y.

Helen W. Samerson-Richardson, of Brooklyn, N.Y., a passenger in the Volkswagen, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Andrews was critically injured and was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center. Nguyen and his passenger, 60-year-old Sinh D. Truong, of Liverpool, N.Y., received minor injuries and neither was transported to area hospitals, the FHP report states.

Charges are pending the outcome of the FHP investigation. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts. But it hasn’t been determined if alcohol played a factor in the incident.
