A two-year-old child was shot at an Ocala residence early Friday afternoon.
Ocala Policer officers scrambled to the home in the 3600 block of NE 21st Street at 12:42 p.m. and when they arrived, they found the child suffering from a single gunshot wound but alert and able to communicate, a police report states, adding that the child was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Witnesses to the shooting were being interviewed by officers from the Criminal Investigations Unit. One of the witnesses said the shooting was believed to be an accidental discharge of the weapon by a juvenile sibling living in the residence.
The victim was in stable condition Friday and is expected to survive. Ocala Police detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting, which is being considered an isolated incident with no continued threat to the public.
