A Citrus Springs man was charged with possession of heroin for the second time in less than three months after being reported for reckless driving in Belleview.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies, responding to a report of reckless driving, arrested 31-year-old Brandon Robert Parrish on Jan. 23 in the parking lot of the Dollar General store at 13415 SE County Road 484. He was charged with possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, driving with a suspended license, and several bond violations.

Parrish was arrested in November on DUI and drug charges after being pulled over for going the wrong way on West Highway 40 in Dunnellon.

Parrish said he was waiting in the stare parking lot for the address of a friend he was planning to visit. When asked why he was fidgety and anxious, Parrish said his license was not good. A records search showed it was suspended in November for refusal to submit to a breath, urine, or blood test, according to the sheriff’s office report.

After being arrested, Parrish told the deputies there was heroin inside his black gym bag in the vehicle. A search of the bag turned up substances that field tested positive for heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine, the report said.

Parrish said he knew his license was suspended and admitted the drugs belonged to him. He said he has a bad drug problem, according to the report.

Parrish is being held without bond in the Marion County Jail and will appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 25.
