Area students and young adults encouraged to attend upcoming Youth Job Fair

CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion has teamed up with Marion County Public Schools to host the upcoming 7th annual Youth Job Fair.

The event will be held Tuesday, March 31, from 2:30-6 p.m. at the Hilton Ocala, located at 3600 SW 36th Avenue. It is exclusively for 16-24-year-olds and is ideal for older youth/young adults seeking full or part-time employment – whether permanent, temporary or just for the summer.

The event is free but participants must register by March 27. Those interested in taking part in the job fair can click HERE to sign up.

So far, a variety of area businesses have agreed to take part in the event. Those include Center State Bank, Chariot Eagle, Chick-fil-A, College of Central Florida, Custom Window Systems, Episcopal Children’s Services, Florida Department of Corrections, Lockheed Martin, Marion County Public Schools-Extended Day Program, Ocala Landscape Management, Pacific Arches/McDonalds, Phoenix Wood Products, Pratt Industries, R&L Global Logistics and Sitel.

Cory Weaver, assistant director of business relations for CareerSource CLM, said the job fair offers a “truly terrific opportunity for area businesses interested in hiring this age group and for youth and young adults who don’t know how to get started earning a paycheck but are ready, willing and able to work.”

Mark Vianello, executive director of Career and Technical Education for Marion County Public Schools, noted that 475 graduating seniors have identified “immediate employment” as their goal after high school.

“That’s why this job fair is so very important,” he said. “A student can’t be what they can’t see … they may not know all the opportunities in Marion County.”

While Marion County Public Schools is co-hosting the event, it also is open to older youth/young adults from Citrus and Levy counties. Attendees should bring printed copies of their resumes and be prepared for on-the-spot job interviews.

Proper dress will be required, and all those planning to attend the job fair should come dressed to impress – no flip-flops or casual sandals, T-shirts with profane or obscene language or images, shorts or jeans with rips or holes, or anything that is too tight, too short or revealing.

Those interested in developing or updating their resume, working on interview skills and/or receiving job fair preparation tips are encouraged to visit one of CareerSource CLM’s career centers located at 2703 NE 14th St., in Ocala; 683 S. Adolph Point, in Lecanto; and 2175 NW 11th Dr. in Chiefland. All job candidate services are available at no charge. Businesses interested in participating in the free event should call (352) 873-7955, ext. 1114 or 1-800-746-9950, ext. 1114.
