Marion County Schools postpone or cancel extracurricular activities

Marion County Public Schools is heeding warnings about COVID-19 by canceling or postponing all extracurricular events and activities for students through Tuesday, March 24.
This includes extracurricular and sporting competitions, club-based outings, district events and events attracting more than 250 people. The cancellations include but are not limited to:

  • Charlie Dixon Elementary Music Festival at First Baptist Ocala;
  • Wreaths Across America education visit to Hammett Bowen Jr. Elementary;
  • Howard Middle School’s trip to Washington, D.C.;
  • Dunnellon Middle School’s trip to Washington, D.C.;
  • Marion Technical College nursing student visits to local nursing/assisted living facilities;
  • West Port High School’s JROTC trip to Virginia;
  • West Port High School’s band students in New York City (returning early);
  • Forest High School video production students in Washington, D.C. (coming home early due to national conference cancellation);
  • Belleview High School’s trip to Miami to see the stage production of “Hamilton”; and
    Visits to colleges and universities because of directives to move those campuses to online platforms.Marion County Public Schools is encouraging parents and families to ensure their contact information is current. This can be accomplished via Family Access (parent portal) or in person at the various schools.
