Ocala man tased during arrest for brandishing knife

Steven Odis Hummer

An Ocala man had to be tased while being arrested recently for allegedly brandishing a knife at a man who wanted him to leave his residence.

Steven Odis Hummer, 39, of 3441 S. Pine Ave. No. 28, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, battery on an officer, resisting an officer without violence, and resisting an office with violence.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to the victim’s residence on SE 28th Street, where the victim said Hummer was refusing to leave. The victim told the deputies that Hummer had a knife and displayed it in an aggressive manner when he was told to leave the residence. The victim said he fled the location and called law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputies went inside and found Hummer seated in a recliner chair. Hummer refused all orders to comply, including failing to show deputies his hands, place his hands on his head or lay down on the ground. Hummer said he had a knife in his hoodie but failed to comply with all lawful orders. A deputy used an electronic disabling device to try and get Hummer to do what he was told, the report said.

While Hummer was being placed in handcuffs, he forcefully kicked a deputy in the lower knee area and continued to refuse all orders. Hummer kept pulling away and trying to grab the deputies by the uniform. During the struggle, Hummer was aggressively trying to retrieve the knife from his hoodie but unable to get it, according to the report.

Hummer was finally placed under arrest and taken to the Marion County Jail without further incident. He’s being held on $13,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on April 14.
