Glass cup-wielding woman jailed after brawl over missing makeup

Kendell Lynn Ray

A 39-year-old Ocala woman was arrested last week after she allegedly hit a woman with a glass cup during an argument over missing makeup, and then punching and scratching a man who tried to intervene.

A witness told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that the female victim was doing her eyelashes on the porch when Kendell Lynn Ray came up and started a verbal argument with the victim about stealing makeup four years ago. The witness said Ray then hit the victim on the side of the face with a glass cup she was holding, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The witness said after hitting the victim with the cup, Ray grabbed her around the neck from the back to hold her while she punched her on the head a few more times with a closed fist. Hearing the commotion, the male victim came to the porch area and tried to intervene. When the male victim separated Ray from the female victim, Ray came after him by punching him in the face and scratching the back of his neck, the report said.

The female victim had a visible hematoma over her left eye on her forehead, a black eye and bleeding scratches on the left side of her face. She said she was sitting on the porch, doing the witness’ eyelashes when Ray came at her angrily talking about some missing makeup from four years ago, according to the report.

The female victim said Ray hit her over her left eye with a glass cup she was holding. She said after hitting her, Ray put her in a chokehold and punched her in the head. The female victim said the male victim then ran to the porch to break up the fight, and Ray turned her aggression towards him. She said Ray punched him in the face, grabbed him around his neck and scratched him, the report said.

The male victim said he was working on his car in the back yard of the residence when he heard the arguing going on. He said he ran to the house and saw Ray hitting the female victim. He said he tried to separate Ray from the female victim, and Ray turned on him and punched him in the face repeatedly and scratched the back of his neck, according to the report.

The male victim had visible bleeding lacerations on his face and another laceration in the middle of his back at the base of his neck. He told the deputy that Ray has had problems with drugs and has caused trouble at the residence before, the report said.

A neighbor who witnessed the incident said Ray ran up to the porch and struck the female victim in the face with a cup and then put her in a chokehold while punching her. He said the male victim tried to intervene and Ray turned around and started hitting him, according to the report.

The witness said Ray ran to where sleeps, outside the home in a shed, and made threats about having a weapon. He said everybody got scared and ran in the opposite direction. The witness said no weapon was brandished and no gun was seen. He said law enforcement officers are at the scene constantly because of Ray’s behavior, the report said.

Ray told the deputy she was attacked by the victim. She was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Sunday on $2,000 bond. Ray is scheduled to appear in Marion County Jail on April 22.
