A habitual trespasser with two dozen prior arrests is back in the Marion County Jail after struggling with deputies who found him sitting on a concrete wall at an address he was previously trespassed from.
Joseph Eugene Ring, 62, of Ocala was charged with resisting an officer without violence, disorderly intoxication and causing a disturbance in a public place and trespassing. Jail records show Ring has been arrested 25 times since 2011 – more than half for trespassing.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded recently to the report of an older white male stumbling into traffic in the area of SW 60th Avenue and Highway 200. Upon arrival, the deputy found Ring sitting on the concrete wall of 6899 SW 60th Ave., according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy was familiar with Ring and knew he had been trespassed from the address where the wall was located. Ring initially denied sitting on the wall, but then spontaneously told another citizen the reason he was stopped was because he “was sitting on the wall,” the report said.
While waiting for confirmation of Ring being trespassed, the deputy placed Ring in handcuffs and tried to pat him down for weapons. Ring was placed against the patrol vehicle and told the lean up against it, but he kept actively obstructing, pulling away and trying to turn around and talk to the other citizen nearby, according to the report.
The deputy again told Ring to lean against the vehicle and said if he pulled away again, he would be charged with obstruction. Ring again failed to comply, the report said.
The deputy confirmed that Ring was trespassed from the location on Jan. 5. Ring was clearly under the influence of a substance. He was slurring his words as he spoke and a strong odor of alcohol was emitting from his mouth, according to the report.
Ring is being held on $1,500 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on May 13.
