Ocala man accused of slamming fridge door on woman’s head

Joseph Michael List

An Ocala man is accused of slamming a refrigerator door on the head of a woman retrieving a magnifying glass and a can of yams he hid from her.

In addition to simple battery, Joseph Michael List, 33, was also charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug equipment after his arrest on Sunday morning.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she was looking in her refrigerator because List sometimes will hide items from her in there. She said she found her magnifying glass and a container of yams, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she took the magnifying glass and when she tried to collect the container of yams, List intentionally slammed the door on her head multiple times. She said this caused a small cut on her chin, which the deputy observed. The cut appeared fresh because it was still wet with bright red blood, the report said.

List did not respond to any questions about the incident and was placed under arrest. A small pipe with a burnt substance and a single green leafy bud were found in List’s left shorts pocket. The green leafy substance field tested positive for THC, according to the report.

List said he didn’t have a medical marijuana card, and that it wasn’t a criminal offense for possessing marijuana – only a citation. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held Tuesday on $5,000 bond. List is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on May 19.
