An Ocklawaha man found himself behind bars Sunday night after a nasty battle with a woman who ended up on crutches after visiting a hospital emergency room.
The woman told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that she was packing up her belongings when 35-year-old Matthew Edward Rose pushed her. She claimed that Rose grabbed her by the shoulders and told her he wanted to talk. She said she told him it was too late for talking and he broke a television and a mirror, a sheriff’s office report says.
The woman said Rose pushed her and she fell onto the ground and cut her finger on a piece of the broken glass from the mirror. She claimed that Rose had grabbed her around the neck and she passed out, but she was unsure if it was caused by “anxiety.” She also said Rose’s uncle “broke through the door” and it hit her foot, the report says.
Rose told deputies he had been in a verbal altercation with the woman but nothing physical happened. He allowed deputes to enter the residence and they observed a damaged television in the living room and a broken mirror with glass on the floor in the bedroom. Rose said he was angry after the woman left and that’s when he broke the mirror, the report says.
The woman had already gone to a hospital to be checked prior to making contact with sheriff’s deputies. She said she had a sprained ankle and was using crutches, the report says.
Deputies noted that the door to the bedroom was loose on the hinges and there was a hole in the drywall behind it, “consistent with a doorknob going through the wall.” They also observed a small laceration on the woman’s left index finger but didn’t see any marks or bruises around her neck, the report says.
Rose was then taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. He was being held on $2,000 bond and is due in court Aug. 4 at 9 a.m.
