Woman accused of slapping and hurling racial slur during incident at The Centers

Yvette Dale Carpenter

A woman arrested in 2019 for biting a deputy’s arm was arrested again after she reportedly slapped and made a racial insult to an employee while being escorted out of The Centers mental health hospital.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded Tuesday evening to a disturbance call at the treatment center, located at 5664 SW 60th St. in Ocala. The caller reported that Yvette Dale Carpenter, 42, whose address is listed as Panama City, had been brought there by Ocala Police under the amnesty act for alcohol treatment, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Carpenter became disruptive and started throwing things and yelling at staff and other patients. The sheriff’s office was called to escort her out of the facility and staff requested for her to be trespassed. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with Carpenter and told her he was there to escort her out of the building, the report said.

While Carpenter was walking towards the exit, the victim held out a plastic bag containing Carpenter’s belongings for her take. Carpenter called the victim a “fat nigger bitch” and went to slap and grab the bag from the victim’s hand. This resulted in the victim receiving a minor cut on the back of her right hand that drew blood, according to the report.

Carpenter was escorted from the building and into the patrol car. The deputy noted she had a strong smell of alcohol on her person. Carpenter was issued a trespass warning and charged with battery on an emergency medical care provider, the report said.

Carpenter has three prior battery convictions, including the incident last year where she was charged with biting a Marion County sheriff’s deputy who was trying to restrain her at the Greyhound bus station. She was released Saturday on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Aug. 11.
