Released inmate right back behind bars after biting deputy’s arm

Yvette Dayle Carpenter

A woman recently released from the Lowell Correctional Institution wound up back behind bars after allegedly biting a Marion County sheriff’s deputy who was trying to restrain her.

According to the deputy’s report, Yvette Dayle Carpenter, 41, of Panama City, was released from the prison Jan. 29 and taken by a correctional officer to the Greyhound bus station at 4032 W. Hwy. 326 in Ocala. The bus driver refused to allow her to board because of her behavior at the station, so the officer was told to bring her back to the institution, a sheriff’s office report states.

After they returned, Carpenter continued to act out, asking for people who weren’t there and acting delusional. She was kept inside the Department of Corrections van until the deputy arrived, the report says.

The deputy talked to Carpenter and observed her delusional acts. At that point she was told she was being detained then resisted the deputy’s orders to get out of the van. Once she was forcibly removed from the van and was being handcuffed, she bent over and bit the deputy’s right arm on the outside of the elbow. The bite did not penetrate the skin or leave any marks but was witnessed by a deputy trainee at the scene, the report says.

Carpenter was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer. She’s being held in the Marion County Jail on $5,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on March 5.
