Citra woman jailed after fight with 80-year-old roommate

Kendell Lynn Ray

A Citra woman who was arrested earlier this year after a fight with over missing makeup is now accused of battering her 80-year-old roommate and stealing his phone.

Kendell Lynn Ray, 40, of East County Road 318, was charged Monday with battery on a person 65 years of age or older, petit theft of an item worth between $100 and $300 and violating her probation on a DUI conviction. She also had her bond revoked for her arrest in March on a pair of domestic battery charges.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy he and Ray were arguing over civil issues on Sunday when she punched him in the face with a closed fist, knocking his glasses off his face. He said Ray then grabbed his left arm, scratching him and tearing his skin. The deputy observed a red mark on the victim’s face next to his eye, as well as lacerations, blood and bruising on his left arm, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Ray took his phone out of his hand before leaving because she doesn’t have one of her own. He said he tried to call 911 from another phone he had but it did not have service. The victim said he contacted a neighbor who called for him, the report said.

The victim initially said he didn’t want to press charges against Ray but said he doesn’t want her living at the residence any longer. He said he and Ray are not in a domestic relationship together, and he has allowed her to stay at the residence because she doesn’t have anywhere else to live. The victim said they are only roommates and they live in separate parts of the residence, according to the report.

Ray is being held in the Marion County Jail on $4,000 bond. No court information was available.
