Former Brothers’ Keeper building demolished to make way for new Mellow Mushroom

The former home to Brothers’ Keeper Thrift Store has been demolished to make way for a new pizza restaurant.
Mellow Mushroom, a pizza restaurant chain established in 1974, will construct a new building on the space to operate in 2021.
Late last year, the restaurant had hoped to renovate the space, but was forced to demolish the building when it was deemed structurally unsound.

According to property records, the historical “Davis/Goldman Block Building” was constructed in 1891. Previously home to Badcock Furniture, the Brothers Keeper Thrift Store occupied the space for many years before relocating to 320 NW 10th Street.
The new restaurant joins a slate of new businesses that have opened their doors in the past year.
Both Bank Street Patio Bar and Black Sheep on Broadway celebrated their year anniversaries last month.
Tipsy Skipper celebrated a few grand openings earlier this year, as did the Loft and Anti-Monopoly Drug Store, both located above The Lodge Brick City Craft Pub & Eatery.
And Morevino, a wine bar that took over the former Tavern on the Square location, opened its doors right before the pandemic began.
Mellow Mushroom currently operates over 150 locations throughout the United States and Florida, including Mount Dora, Sanford, and Winter Park, to name a few. The restaurant is known for its large, eclectic pizzas, which feature a variety of toppings that are packed to the brim of the pizza. In addition to pizza, their menu will feature calzones, sandwiches and salads.
