Ocala man jailed after fight over stolen weed

Tristan David Short

A 23-year-old Ocala man whose mother drove him to a confrontation over stolen marijuana was charged with beating up a man in the front doorway of his home.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded Monday afternoon to a residence on Northeast 11th Street, where the victim said Tristan David Short came to his house and confronted him about an issue between the two of them. He said Short started striking him with a closed fist, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said he and Short fought on the front porch. The deputy observed bruising around the victim’s right eye, and his right temple area appeared to be red and swollen, the report said.

The deputy spoke with Short at his residence at 500 SE 50th Ave. He said he went to the victim’s house to talk about an issue between the two. Short said they got into a physical altercation, but he didn’t believe he hit the victim hard enough to leave marks, according to the report.

Short’s mother told the deputy she drove Short to the victim’s home because the victim allegedly stole marijuana from him. Se said she stayed in the vehicle while Short went to the front door to talk to the victim. Short’s mother said when she saw the two fighting, she got out of the vehicle and intervened, the report said.

Due to the victim having bruising consistent with being struck in the face, as well as Short’s statements, Short was charged with simple battery and taken to the Marion County Jail. He was released early Tuesday on $1,000 bond.
