An Ocala man fresh off a five-month stint in the Marion County Jail will spend the rest of 2020 behind bars after being arrested for refusing to leave after being trespassed from the Stage Stop Motel.

On Wednesday afternoon, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the motel, located at 5131 E. Silver Springs Blvd., where the owner said he wanted a male – later identified as Joshua Jerrell Bowie, 27, of 2236 NW 40th Place – trespassed. The owner said he did not believe Bowie had been previously trespassed from the location, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy spoke with Bowie outside Room 231. Bowie said he does not live at the Stage Stop and was only taking a break. The deputy told Bowie the manager wanted him trespassed, and Bowie said he wanted to collect his items so he could leave. The deputy followed Bowie to the far edge of the motel, where Bowie gathered his things while the deputy ran a teletype search on Bowie’s name, the report said.

After the search confirmed Bowie had not been previously trespassed, the deputy told him he needed to collect his items and leave. At that point, Bowie sat in a chair and put his head in his hands. The deputy told him multiple times he needed to get up and leave. Bowie then gathered his items and started to walk down the stairs and off the property, according to the report.

Bowie went to the dumpster and threw items into the trash, and then walked around the corner of the motel. The deputy observed him leaning against the wall and playing with his hair. The deputy asked Bowie what he was doing, and Bowie mumbled something that was incoherent. Told again that he needed to leave, Bowie started walking towards the front, the report said.

The deputy got into the patrol vehicle and drove towards the front of the business as Bowie walked in the direction of the front office. At that point, Bowie turned around and started walking back through a breezeway at the front of the motel. He was placed in handcuffs and arrested, according to the report.

Jail records show Bowie with 14 arrests since 2017, including two priors this year. He was jailed from Jan. 5 through May 20 for trespass after warning, retail theft, loitering or prowling, and possession of drug equipment. He was arrested again May 31 and held until Oct. 28 for trespassing, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bowie was charged this time with trespassing and will stay in jail until 12 a.m. Jan. 1, 2021.
