Ocala man caught with drugs in car during speeding stop

Marlon Gonzalez-Herenandez

An Ocala man was arrested on drug charges after being pulled over for speeding on SW Hwy. 200 last week.

Marlon Gonzalez-Herenandez, 53, of 7580 NE 4th Court, was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of a harmful new legend drug without a prescription, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and possession of marijuana.

At around 10:25 p.m. Monday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed red GMC pickup traveling west at around 70 mph in a posted 50-mph speed zone. After pacing the truck in the patrol car to get an accurate measurement, the deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 4800 block of SW Highway 200, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Prior to speaking with Gonzalez-Herenandez, who was the driver and lone occupant, the deputy saw him lean over into the passenger area of the vehicle. The deputy asked Gonzalez-Herenandez if there was anything illegal in the vehicle and he replied that there wasn’t, the report said.

A sheriff’s office K-9 unit arrived on the scene and the dog, “Bolo,” alerted to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle. A search turned up a baggie with a green leafy substance, a hand-rolled cigarette with a green leafy substance, two small pills with markings of “S 20” on one and “OUYI 101” on the other, wrapping papers, a scale, and a small metal grinder, according to the report.

Inside Gonzalez-Herenandez’s wallet was “Buprenorphine and Naloxone Sublingual Film,” which is a Schedule 3 controlled substance and requires a prescription. The green leafy substance in both the bag and cigarette tested positive for marijuana. The pill marked with “S 20” tested positive for codeine, the report said.

Gonzalez-Herenandez was placed under arrest and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Tuesday on $5,000 bond. No court information was available.
