Patricia Mortimer Simonet

Patricia Mortimer Simonet, Patty to friends and family, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died at her home in Ocala on January 10, 2021. Patty was born June 23,1934, in the idyllic small town of Punxsutawney, site of Groundhog Day, in the verdant foot hills of the Allegheny Mountains of Western Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Margaret (Collins) Mortimer.

While Patty grew up in Beaver, Pennsylvania, most of her adult life was spent in Florida. She was an outstanding wife and mother. Education of her children was a top priority. All five children graduated from universities, most also obtaining Master’s or Doctorate degrees. Her accomplishments professionally were also significant. She was known for her intelligence, common sense and problem solving abilities. A founding member of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA). She served several terms as president of the ALA’s South Florida Chapter, one of the largest in the country. She was firm administrator for one of the country’s largest law firms and ended her career after many years as managing director of a large international legal management consulting firm.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Simonet, CPA, of Ocala, FL and sons, Sir Thomas (Laura) Equels, Ocala FL, Commander Timothy (Pia) Equels, Roswell, GA, Richard (Beverly) Simonet, Jr., Burnsville, NC; daughters Kimberly (Randy Weber) Hurley, Melbourne, FL, Katherine (Victor) Calvert, Jacksonville, FL; granddaughters Lesley (Ed) Joliff, Butte, MT, Maura (John) Linger, Melbourne, FL, Mary Helena (Dr. Randall) Cannon, Orlando FL, Christina (Ethan) Samuel, Denver, CO and Kara Calvert, Jacksonville FL; grandsons Andrew (Crystal) Equels, Virginia Beach, VA, Paul Equels, Roswell GA, Sean (Colleen) Hurley, Dallas, TX, Brian Connor (Danielle) Hurley, Melbourne, FL, Dr. Joshua Calvert, Jacksonville, FL, Hank Simonet and Mason Simonet, Burnsville, NC; Dr. Darius (Katie) Jahann, Winston-Salem NC and, Liana (Leonardo) Rivera, Miami, FL. Patty is survived by her sister Jessie (George) Hamilton, Shelocta, PA, sixteen great grand children, A.K. Tunu Puri, CPA, who she lovingly referred to as her ‘adopted’ son, and many many friends who miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Beverly Fink.

The family is grateful for the care and assistance provided by Care Time Home Health and Marion County hospice. Her children are deeply appreciative of the love, care and kindness extended by their father, Richard Simonet, which allowed Patty to remain on the farm and in the home she loved, surrounded by family, until her peaceful passing.

Life long members of Plymouth Congregational Church, Coconut Grove, FL, upon moving to Ocala, Summerfield Congregational Church became their family church. A memorial service will be held for Patty at Summerfield Congregational Church as soon as possible given the current pandemic.
