33 percent of Marion County residents have received COVID-19 vaccines

More than 33 percent of Marion County’s residents are at least partially vaccinated against the deadly COVID-19 virus.

That’s according to a report released late Friday afternoon by the Department of Health in Marion County that also says more than 120,000 residents have been vaccinated for the deadly virus across all providers – hospitals, health department, long-term care facilities, etc. That equates to nearly 200,000 doses of vaccine, the report says, adding that 22.7 percent of residents are fully vaccinated.

Local officials are encouraging all who are eligible to register for a COVID-19 vaccine if they have not yet received one.

“Don’t wait; register today for your COVID-19 vaccine,” said Department of Health in Marion County Administrator Mark Lander. “We are able to quickly book you for an appointment at the Paddock Mall vaccination site.”

Anyone 18 years old or older is eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine in Florida. Those age 16 years old or older are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Go to Marion.FloridaHealth.gov (or register directly at www.tinyurl.com/MarionCOVIDvax) to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccination with the Department of Health in Marion County. Residents without online access can call 352-644-2590 for assistance in signing up.

As of Friday, Marion Couty was reporting 29,892 cumulative cases of COVID-19 – an increase of 100 cases from Thursday. Of Marion COVID-19 cases from Thursday, 8.41 percent tested positive. The daily positivity rate for all new COVID-19 cases in Florida on Thursday was 6.83 percent.

From COVID-19 cases reported over the past seven days (cases reported April 10 to 16), Marion County saw an average of:

  • 55 new cases reported per day;
  • 6.35 percent daily positivity rate; and
  • 0.86 COVID-19 related deaths reported per day.

From COVID-19 cases reported April 1 to 16, Marion County saw an average of:

  • 57.25 new cases reported per day;
  • 5.86 percent daily positivity rate; and
  • 1.5 COVID-19 related deaths reported per day.

From cases reported March 17 to April 16, Marion County saw an average of:

  • 48.4 new cases reported per day;
  • 5.3 percent daily positivity rate; and
  • 1.54 COVID-19 related deaths reported per day.
