New restaurants sprouting up throughout Ocala

Although it has been just over a year since the business world was essentially shut down on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, new restaurants have steadily been sprouting up throughout the city.

From downtown to southwest Ocala, multiple restaurants are under construction and others have recently celebrated grand openings. That includes Chicken Salad Chick, who, after its success in opening a location in The Villages, opened its first location in Ocala last month. The new chicken salad themed restaurant is located in southwest Ocala, along SR 200 (4720 SW College Road).

In downtown Ocala, Cantina Tex-Mex and Tequila Bar is hoping to open the doors on a new location in the coming months. The new restaurant will call Ocala’s downtown square home in the coming months and will be located at the intersection of SE 1st Avenue and SE Broadway St. Check out Cantina’s announcement video on Facebook.

In addition to Cantina, Mellow Mushroom, the popular national pizza franchise that announced its plans to create a location in Ocala nearly two years ago, has made steady progress on their site throughout the year.

The building, which is located at 2 W Fort King St, was previously the home of Brother’s Keeper Thrift Store before it was demolished to make way for the new pizza restaurant. With the addition of its Ocala franchise, Mellow Mushroom now manages over 150 locations throughout the United States.

Earlier this year, Big City Burger opened its doors at 2611 SW 19th Avenue Road, next door to the Gathering Cafe. The restaurant offers a collection of different burgers and wings, and is open at 11 a.m. daily.

Recently, the World Equestrian Center added to its impressive dining offering when it opened the doors on its newest restaurant, The Yellow Pony Pub & Garden. The gastro lounge features an outdoor patio and fireplace, and will offer pub fare, traditional draft beers, bourbons and whiskeys.
