Ocala aquatic programs coming to Hampton, Jervey Gantt Aquatic Centers

The city of Ocala will host a series of aquatic programs at Hampton and Jervey Gantt Aquatic Centers this summer. 

The programs, which kick off later this month, will focus on teaching students basic water safety, swimming skills, and even lifeguarding:

“Learn to Swim” from May 24 to July 28, Mondays – Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., or 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jervey Gantt Aquatic Center (2390 SE 36th Avenue): Learn to Swim consists of six lessons over a two-week period. Students are placed in groups according to their swimming levels. Students will learn staying safe around water, floating, strokes, how to efficient swimmers, and additional aquatic skills. $55 per person. 

“Adult Lap Swim” from May 31 to July 29, Mondays – Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., or 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Jervey Gantt Aquatic Center (2390 SE 36th Avenue): Take a lap at our pool! Lap swim workouts are a great way to build muscle, practice cardio respiratory fitness, tone muscles and  burn calories-all without putting strain on your joints. Lap Swim is for adults 18+ only. $5 per session. 

“Aquability” from June 7 to July 1, and July 6 to July 29 at Hampton Aquatic Center (255 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard). Ages 5 – 12, 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ages 12 to adults, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays: Individuals of all abilities can enjoy swimming! Aquability will have two swim sessions that last  four weeks for individuals with special needs to learn basic water safety and swimming skills. Swimmers must be accompanied by an in-water buddy. $55 per person. 

“Junior Lifeguard” from June 21 to June 25, at Jervey Gantt Aquatic Center (2390 SE 36th Avenue), Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12-p.m: Junior Lifeguard offers hands-on experience for teenagers interested in being a lifeguard as future summer employment. Participants will receive training in water skills, escape techniques, CPR, AED and first aid. Candidates must pass three prerequisites: swim front crawl 25 yards, submerge to depth 6 feet and tread water for one minute.
