New seafood restaurant opening doors this week

A new seafood restaurant will open the doors on a familiar location this week.

Storming Crab Seafood will officially open on Saturday, July 10, according to a social media post from the company.

The restaurant replaces the shuttered Ruby Tuesday’s at 3500 SW College Road, Unit 100, which closed locations across the nation because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ocala location will be Storming Crab’s first restaurant in Florida, and one of only a handful in the southeastern United States. The only other state in the southeast with Storming Crab restaurants is Tennessee.

Storming Crab serves crab legs, crab claws, shrimp, oysters, and other types of seafood in a Louisiana Cajun style. It joins a few other seafood restaurants that have opened up shop nearby in the past couple years.

Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar opened their new location at Market Street at Heath Brook in March 2020. The restaurant offers oysters prepared in a variety of ways, in addition to a collection of other seafoods.

Red Crab Juicy Seafood renovated the space formerly occupied by Crisper’s at 2604 SW 19th Avenue Road and has now been in operation for two years.

In general, the restaurant industry has seem a boom in recent years in Ocala, with construction ongoing across a collection of projects at the moment.

In downtown Ocala, Mellow Mushroom has been making strides towards completing its new location, which will feature another restaurant and a rooftop bar on the additional levels of the building.
