Final design for new mural at E. D. Croskey Recreation Center to be unveiled at the end of this month

The final design for the Croskey Mural is set to be unveiled at the end of this month.

The City of Ocala’s Cultural Arts and Sciences Division, along with Fine Arts for Ocala, Racial Harmony and Cultural Awareness Task Force, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Commission will be presenting the final design for the Croskey Mural on Thursday, October 28 at 6:00 p.m.

The mural will be featured on the west and south-facing walls of the E. D. Croskey Recreation Center located at 1510 NW Fourth Street.

After the city sought public input for the new mural, the final design presentation was originally scheduled for this past Friday, October 8. According to a press release, the decision to postpone the presentation date was made to allow the public more time to submit stories and images to the muralist, Cosby Hayes, and literary artist, Cynthia Graham.

Three gatherings were held at the E. D. Croskey Recreation Center and two online forms were offered to the public as ways to participate in the mural’s concept and design.

The final design presentation on October 28 is free to attend and open to the public. There will be temperature checks upon entry and cleaning procedures will be in place.
