Marion County reports decrease in COVID-19 cases, slight increase in vaccinations

Marion County reported another decrease in COVID-19 cases last week.

According to the Florida Department of Health, the COVID-19 weekly report for Friday, October 1, to Thursday, October 7 shows a continued decrease from this summer’s spike.

During the week, the county reported 427 positive COVID-19 cases, an average of 61 new cases each day. That number is a 30% decrease of what it was the week prior, when the county reported an average of 87 cases a day.

The most recent figures represent a significant decrease from the summer spike, which at one point saw over 450 new COVID-19 cases each day.

In total last week, 928 residents were administered vaccines, an increase of over 100 from the previous week.

The report shows that 62% of eligible residents, or 204,448, are currently vaccinated in Marion County. All residents ages 12 and older are considered eligible.
