Ocala residents share thoughts on boredom and finding entertainment in the city

In response to a letter stating that every place, including Ocala, gets boring eventually, several Ocala residents wrote in and shared their thoughts on entertaining themselves in the city.

“I have only been in Ocala for two years and I can say it’s boring. Where is the attraction besides being the great horse capital of the world? Don’t get me wrong, I love the woods and love farmland, but where is the actual fun? This is Florida and we need an actual real water park like Sun Splash in Cape Coral or a small Aquatica, not a small splash pad with a rinky-dink slide. What’s up with all the gas stations and car washes? How many do we need? Maybe more downtown activities like art walks or wine festivals? Fort Myers had a huge waterslide going down a bridge. Why can’t we do that? If the city really cared for its citizens, this is the best way to keep trouble out because everyone is bored,” says Josh Swartz of Ocala.

“When you get older and can’t do the things you did in your 40’s and 50’s, everywhere gets boring. You don’t hike or garden or anything else you used to like to do, or at least not as much or as long as you used to. Find a group of like-minded friends and start doing the things you can do. Join a club, take Sunday drives, go to church (that’s a great place to find like-minded friends). Don’t focus on what you can’t do and focus more on what you can do. Ocala can be boring but only if you let it. Sometimes I feel the same way, it’s just your state of mind,” says Ocala resident Kay Voge.
