50-year-old Ocala man killed, passengers seriously injured in crash on SR-40

A 50-year-old Ocala man was killed and two passengers were seriously injured in a crash along SR-40 on Friday.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report, the 50-year-old man was driving a sports utility vehicle eastbound on SR-40 in Volusia County on Friday, October 29, around 11 a.m. when the vehicle traveled off the roadway near Chesser Hammock Road for unknown reasons.

The vehicle overturned and the driver was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to the report. 

Both of the vehicle’s passengers, a 38-year-old man and 9-year-old boy from Ocala, sustained serious injuries in the accident and were transported to Halifax Medical Center.

The crash is currently under investigation.

The names of the driver and passengers involved in the accident have not been released, per FHP policy.
