Ocala and Dunnellon residents share thoughts on whether Ocala needs passenger trains

In response to a recent Letter to the Editor, Ocala and Dunnellon residents voiced differing opinions on whether the city has a need for passenger trains:

“I would love to see a passenger train going out of Ocala again. So convenient for access, the old train station was great. That was my first train ride, went from Ocala to Fort Lauderdale!” – says Ocala resident Cheryl Saines

“Ocala has an Amtrak terminal: https://www.amtrak.com/stations/oca,” says Michael Terrell, Ocala

“Great idea! Beneficial for all drivers! Think of the positive environmental impact. Less vehicles on roads. Less gasoline pollution. I hate the road rage. So nice to sit back, meet people, and get to where we’re going. The state will get revenue too. It’s a win-win,” says Dunnellon resident Diane White

“I think a passenger train from Ocala to different hubs is a wonderful idea. I don’t know why they ever stopped it in the first place! We used to have a wonderful experience riding the train to see my grandmother in the Bartow area. I have great memories of that train ride,” says Kay Voge, Ocala

“A train service that can run from Ocala to Tampa and Orlando would be great for the city of Ocala. It would generate tax dollars for the city and county, and not to mention tourists would buy property here as well,” says Ocala resident, Noel Tulley

“Perhaps people that want this should move to one of the cities that have this service. We do not need it. Stop trying to turn Ocala into another New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc. I am from Brooklyn, New York, and I reiterate: we do not need it,” says Marta Varnell, Ocala
