The Festival at Fort King returns to bring Ocala back to the 1800s this weekend.
The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department is hosting the Festival at Fort King on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fort King National Historic Landmark (3925 E Fort King Street in Ocala).
During the event, artillery volunteers will fire live cannons. Residents in the area may hear a series of rounds fired multiple times throughout the day during the event.
The historic-themed festival is set in the 1800s and will feature a full-scale re-enactment of the events that fueled the start of the Second Seminole War.
The festival was previously known as Attack on Fort King: A Fight for Freedom. This year’s event is expanding to offer hands-on activities, cast iron cooking, axe throwing, a kids’ area, bird hike, Fort King trail tours, home brewed beer, craft vendors, and more.
Admission to the event is $5 per person. Veterans and children under 5 get in for free.
In November, the Friends of McIntosh held a festival that brought attendees back to the 1890s.
