New Year, New Me 5K race hits Carney Island trail in January

Marion County Parks and Recreation is hosting a 5K race next month to help residents get a healthy start to the new year.

The New Year, New Me 5K race is being held at Carney Island Recreation and Conservation Area (13275 SE 115th Avenue in Ocklawaha) on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 8 a.m. until noon.

Participants will get to enjoy the nature and scenery as they run down the trail at Carney Island.

Early registration is open until Sunday, January 2, 2022, for a $30 fee per registrant. General registration begins on Monday, January 3, 2022, up until the day of the event for a $45 fee per registrant.

The event is limited to 100 participants. Early registrants will receive a race t-shirt and free park entry, and all participants will be given a packet with race materials prior to the event.
