Accident causes 1,000-gallon raw sewage spill at Emerald Road, Oak Road intersection

The intersection of Emerald Road and Oak Road in Ocala was closed earlier today due to a large sewage spill that was caused by an accident.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, a 39-year-old Beverly Hills man was traveling north on Emerald Road in a 2007 Kenworth truck at around 6:18 a.m.

A 36-year-old Hernando man was heading east on Oak Road in a 2011 Hyundai sedan.

The truck approached the intersection of Emerald Road and Oak Road, and the driver ran the stop sign. As the truck went through the intersection, its left front side struck the front of the sedan.

After the collision, the truck overturned onto its left side, and the 1,000-gallon sewage tank that the truck was carrying became separated. The tank began to spill raw sewage across the intersection.

The intersection was closed while crews cleaned up the spill, and it was later reopened for traffic at around 11 a.m.
