Brittany Bowe competes in first of three events at 2022 Olympic Winter Games

Ocala resident Brittany Bowe took to the ice on Monday morning for the first of her three scheduled events at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Her first event, the women’s 1,500-meter, began at 3:30 a.m. ET due to a 13-hour time difference.

Bowe, the reigning 1,500-meter World silver medalist, was paired against Norway’s Ragne Wiklund.

Bowe crossed the finish line with a time of 1:55.81 which temporarily put her in 8th place. Once every skater completed their respective laps, Bowe finished with the 10th best time.

The competition was close between 3rd and 10th place with less than one second separating those skaters.

The Netherlands’ Ireen Wust took home the gold medal with an Olympic record of 1:53.28.

Japan’s Miho Takagi earned the silver medal (1:53.72) while the Netherlands’ Antoinette de Jong was awarded the bronze medal (1:54.82).

Bowe still has two events remaining in Beijing. Up next is the women’s 500-meter where she will be joined by teammate and fellow Ocalan Erin Jackson on Sunday, February 13 at 8 a.m. ET.

On Thursday, February 17 at 3:30 a.m. ET, Bowe will wrap up her 2022 Olympic Winter Games run with the women’s 1,000-meter.
