Ocala resident talks about traffic congestion on local roads

To the Editor:

I would like to suggest all these rule-following drivers to follow the rule that prohibits camping out in the left lane. If you look in your rearview mirror and there are vehicles lined up behind you, get over to the right lane. That one act would probably solve some of the traffic congestion and road rage problems until such a time that the entity responsible for the individual stretch of road gets with the program and widens the roads, or puts an express lane in like they do in most other communities.

And that’s another issue: citizens don’t want to pay for anything to be done. I do believe there is probably some waste in government spending in this area, but let’s face it. Most people wouldn’t agree to an increase in taxes sufficient enough to do the things it would take to alleviate the roads and traffic situation. Maybe we should attach an ‘impact fee’ on any new home built or sold in this county. Maybe that would generate enough revenue to build the infrastructure necessary, such as walkover street crossings in the downtown portion of SSB/US40 in the Ocala area.
