The annual Ocala Open kicked off its three-day golf tournament on Tuesday with a Charity Pro-Am event at Candler Hills Golf Club located at 8139 SW 90th Terrace Road in Ocala.
This year’s Pro-Am featured 36 teams of amateur golfers who were paired with one Ocala Open golf professional, and all proceeds benefited Hospice of Marion County, Inc. and Interfaith Emergency Services.
“The Pro-Am is what we all look forward to the most from the Ocala Open. Annually, the Pro-Am is the largest fundraiser in Ocala,” said Matt Hibbs, Director of Golf for Candler Hills Golf Club.
On Tuesday, the participating golfers played through foggy morning conditions and strong winds, and $80,000 was raised for Hospice of Marion County, Inc. and Interfaith Emergency Services during the charity event. Both local organizations were presented with a check for $40,000.
Over the years, the Ocala Open Charity Pro-Am has raised over $893,000 for these local charities. Hibbs said, “We feel strongly (that) the money raised should be used to support organizations whose roots are in Marion County.”
Hospice of Marion County, Inc. offers compassionate care for terminally ill patients and supports the patient’s families and caregivers. Interfaith Emergency Services provides necessities and emergency financial assistance to those who are in need.
The Ocala Open Tournament begins on Wednesday, March 30 and will run through Friday, April 1. For more information, or to view a tournament schedule, visit the Ocala Open at Candler Hills Golf Club webpage.
