Region’s jobless rate for month of April drops to 2.9%

The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion region dropped to 2.9% in April, a decrease of 2.3 percentage points from a year ago.

Across the three-county region, the labor force in April 2022 was 206,790, an increase of 2,148 over the year. According to CareerSource CLM, there were 5,977 unemployed residents in the region.

Levy County had the lowest unemployment rate (2.6%) in the region during the month of April, followed by Marion County (2.8%) and Citrus County (3.3%). Florida’s not seasonally adjusted jobless rate, which is a measure that matches the way local rates are calculated, was 2.4%.

Rusty Skinner, CareerSource CLM’s chief executive officer, noted that the unemployment rates in each county are “historically low” and “provide opportunities to find jobs and even new careers.” For employers, Skinner noted that “this time of year offers a unique opportunity to connect with recent graduates to fill their positions.”

Skinner continued by stating, “We have recently held job fairs in all three counties for young high school graduates seeking employment. College students are also returning for their summer breaks and graduates are lining up their future careers. Reaching out to these new entrants into the workforce is an excellent source for the long-term growth of a company’s workforce.”

The state and local employment reports for May 2022 will be released on Friday, June 17.
