Janis (JP, JJ) Pauline O’Quinn, 79, of Ocala, FL. Passed away peacefully at home on July 2, 2022, in Ocala. Janis was born in Houston, TX. on July 6, 1942, to loving parents Clayton and Marjorie O’Quinn. She was the oldest of 7 children and many foster children her parents cared for.
She was a graduate of Spring High School in Spring, TX in 1960. She went on to become an X-Ray technician. She worked for M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, TX. for many years. She then went on to work for Dow Chemical as one of only 2 women draftsmen in the country. Janis moved to Ocala in 1989 to assist her parents at Gross Pointe Stud Farm. She went to work at Ocala Breeders Sales Company in 1990. She retired briefly and later returned to work as part time payroll administrator till her death. We will miss our big sister as will those she impacted throughout her life, family and friends to the work she did with Ocala Breeders Sales Company.
Jan’s passions involved caring for her family, her cats, antiquing, and collecting ladies’ spittoons, traveling with her sisters and friends, her “Gal trips” as she referred to them. Janis taught us many lessons of life, strength, love, dedication and loyalty. She always had time to listen to anyone who wanted to share their triumphs or troubles. She was never judgmental only loving and caring.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Marjorie O’Quinn and sister, Marjorie Smith. She is survived by her siblings, Dennis (Kelly) O’Quinn, Louie Rogers, Patsy (Troy) Caruthers, Patrick O’Quinn, Mike (Judy) O’Quinn and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life gathering, and service will be held at Roberts of Ocala Downtown Chapel, 606 SW 2nd Avenue, Ocala on Thursday, July 14, 2022, beginning at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Ocala and will be private for family only. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Ocala Breeders Sales Company following the service.
