A woman and her dog were rescued by Marion County firefighters on Sunday afternoon after a fire ignited inside her mobile home.
Shortly before 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, Marion County Fire Rescue units and additional Ocala Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 1200 block of NW 42nd Lane in Ocala due to reports of a residential structure fire.
The individual who called 911 had reported that the mobile home was on fire, and an adult woman and dog were trapped inside.
At 2:48 p.m., MCFR Lowell Engine Company 11 arrived at the mobile home, and MCFR Battalion 6 was on scene a minute later. Battalion 6 established command and directed all incoming units to their assignments, according to MCFR.
Additional units were also quick to arrive on scene, including MCFR Anthony Engine Company 1, MCFR Heavy Rescue 2, MCFR Rescue 28, MCFR Engine Company 19, MCFR Rescue 15, OFR BC 22, OFR E1, and OFR E3.
MCFR Heavy Rescue 2 gained entry into the mobile home and began searching for the woman who was trapped inside. According to MCFR, she was located in the residence within minutes, and crews brought her out of the structure.
The woman was transported as a trauma alert to a local hospital. Rescuers were also able to locate her dog inside the residence, and they administered oxygen to the dog with the help of pet masks that were donated.
Firefighters moved quickly to combat the flames and the fire was under control by 3 p.m.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the residence.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
