71-year-old Ocklawaha woman jailed after striking man with wooden table

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 71-year-old Ocklawaha woman after she admitted to striking a man multiple times with a wooden table during an argument over money.

On Monday, at approximately 12:45 p.m., an MCSO corporal and a deputy trainee responded to a local residence in reference to a domestic battery incident. Upon arrival, they made contact with the male victim who advised that he had gotten into an argument with Diana Gale Harvey prior to the physical altercation.

According to the victim, Harvey had previously given him some money to hold onto for a trip that they were about to take. Prior to the incident, the victim advised that Harvey had asked for some of that money back so she could use the funds to pay several bills.

The victim stated that he refused Harvey’s request and told her that those funds were intended to be used for the upcoming trip. Harvey “became irate” and began to scream and yell at the victim.

Harvey then picked up a wooden table and struck the victim “in the left arm and leg region” multiple times, according to the victim. He stated that the wooden table broke due to the force of those strikes.

According to the victim, Harvey was of sound mind and had never been clinically diagnosed with any psychiatric disorders. The victim advised that Harvey occasionally has violent outbursts, but she had never previously struck him.

The corporal and deputy made contact with Harvey who confirmed that she had previously given money to the victim for an upcoming trip that they were about to take. She advised that she needed some of that money back in order to pay bills for the month, and the victim refused to return any of those funds to her.

Harvey admitted that she “lost her temper,” and she picked up the wooden table and struck the victim multiple times. The corporal noted in the MCSO report that the broken wooden table was lying on the floor in the living room area.

Harvey was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where she is currently being held without bond. She is facing a felony charge for aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
