Marion County’s New Year, New Me 5K race returns to Carney Island on January 28

The Marion County Parks and Recreation Department’s New Year, New Me 5K race will return in two weeks to help residents get their 2023 fitness journey off to a healthy start.

The second installment of the annual event will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 28 at the Carney Island Recreation and Conservation Area, which is located at 13275 SE 115th Avenue in Ocklawaha.

During the event, participants will enjoy the 3.1-mile course as it takes them down the scenic Carney Island trail, which runs along the shore of Lake Weir. Prizes will be up for grabs for the competitive runners, though each participant is welcome to go at their own pace.

The event is open to anyone ages 16 and up, and it will be limited to 100 participants. Registration is required and there is a cost of $45 per runner.

The deadline to sign up for the event is on Friday, January 27 at 11:59 p.m.

Those who registered early (on or before December 5, 2022) will receive an event t-shirt, and all participating runners will be given a packet with race materials prior to the start of the 5K race.
